The pace of change is accelerating. Social Media emerged in late 90’s and spread quickly since 2000. In a very short span of time social media has created huge impact on people of all age group across the world. Basically, it provides homo-sapiens a platform to do most amazing tasks very easily. It allows us to build relationship, connect easily, share expertise and increase visibility. Social media has revolutionized the way people communicate and socialize on the web.

In fact, social networks are one of the fastest growing industries in the world.
Social media is an incredible platform. It has created a tremendous impact in recent past.
Politics: Most of the people today read news and keep themselves updated through mobile apps, print media or TV. Last US Presidential elections & Win of Donald Trump is biggest example of how profoundly social media can affect people’s most crucial decision.
Blogs : It is a strong platform to share critical opinions and work for development of society. Recent MeToo Movement is an example of how this platform provides support to raise their issues for justice.
Society: Almost 60% of the population of India is today registered with some or the other platform. In the USA nearly 80% of all internet users are on this platform. Because social networks feed off interactions among people, they become more powerful as they grow. All thanks to internet, when any person with marginal views finds many other people with same view, they can create memes, publications and bolster their worldview.
Business: This platform has altogether created a new stream or way of getting business through reaching people at every corner. Social media has its own magic to influence people and generate business by selling ideas, products, creating e-commerce apps, branding etc.
But with time it has created its both positive and negative effects on society.

Today, people have forgot the real essence of it and are highly distracted by social websites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and many other online pages. A few of the bad impacts of social media are:
Vulnerable & Depressed Crowd: People especially young generation spends around 2 hour daily on internet. Social media has become directly related to their source of happiness. Multiple check-in, likes, number of shares, comments has limited their world. It’s good to share happiness with others but studies have shown how continuous urge of maintaining higher visibility creates depression and pressure among people.
Fake Identity & Immorality: Cyber bullying is another major concern these days. People very easily create fake identities and can promote wrong ideas. It can be used to create bad reputation and has become a big source of immorality these days.
Lack of privacy: People themselves are to be blamed as they sometimes end up sharing wrong stuff in public eyes.
Impact of relationships: Social media at one point has made it easier to create relations but it has made it also difficult to maintain the relations. A lot of misunderstandings and inability to manage profiles on online media creates mental trouble for individuals.

It is rightly said that - Information is power. As long as content shared is right, social media is a boom to the society. But today people have become addicted to it and it consumes most of their time on irrelevant issues. Thus, it is very much required by individuals to create a filter. Also, social media is very difficult to trace and it needs technological, organizational and government interference to efficiently handle cyber laws.
